VALIMA


Walima in literal translation means “to assemble” and is used to describe an assembly or party celebrating major life events. Walima is essentially interchangeable with American and English terms such as: wedding reception or celebration (when held to celebrate a marriage), birthday party (when held to celebrate the birth of a newborn), or housewarming party (when held to celebrate the purchase of a new home). Similarly, walima is generally interchangeable with other languages/cultures terms that essentially mean to assemble for the purposes of celebrating a marriage, newborn, or new home. While it is an Arabic term, it is not necessarily a term reserved for Muslims per se, as the word simply describes the event that is to be celebrated

THE Origin Of  Valima 

What is walima? The term is derived from the Arabic word “awlama,” which denotes a gathering or an assembly. Some people translate this word to mean the accumulation of something.

BARAT

  Baraat is procession of family, relatives, and friends of groom that accompany the groom to bride’s home for official wedding ceremony. Groom makes his way to the bride’s home on a richly decked horse or in a car and “baraat” follows in different vehicles. Groom is given warm welcome by the bride’s family with flower garlands and rose petals. Family and relatives of the groom and the bride exchange glasses of juice or sherbet along with money. Guests are welcomed by the bride’s sisters by playfully hitting them with a stick wrapped and decorated with flowers BARAT CEREMONY The baraat or grooms procession indicates the arrival of the groom’s family and friends to the bride’s house. The barat is often accompanied by the rhythms of a dho l (drum)  as it arrives and is greeted with flowers garland and rose petals by the brides family.
